Losing lubrication in an engine will destroy it. The oil pump makes sure this doesn't happen by cycling oil through the engine and keeping it lubricated. In most cases, the oil pump lasts through the lifetime of a car, but if there is an accident or if an engine needs overhauling, the oil pump in the Toyota Corolla sometimes needs to be replaced.

Mute the speaker Listen to this using a male or female voice M/F Drive your Toyota Corolla up onto ramps or lifts so you have room to work as you pull out the oil pump. You could also use a jack, but make sure you brace the front wheels so they don't roll. In addition, set the emergency break firmly into position so the car doesn't roll.

Mute the speaker Listen to this using a male or female voice M/F Drain out all the engine oil and disconnect the negative battery cable. Remove the timing chain and the crankshaft sprocket.

Mute the speaker Listen to this using a male or female voice M/F Remove the oil pump and the gasket. Clean the surrounding surfaces, including the mounting surface, with water and old rags to avoid corrosion from salt and other road maintenance substances as well as dirt.

Mute the speaker Listen to this using a male or female voice M/F Install your new oil pump with a new gasket. The bolts should be torqued to 80 in-lb. Add the crankshaft sprocket and the timing chain. Reconnect the negative battery cable and add fresh oil into the engine.

Mute the speaker Listen to this using a male or female voice M/F Turn the Toyota Corolla engine on and check for leaks around all the parts replaced. Drive your car off the lifts if there are no leaks.
